This month has just begun and there have already been two cases where drunk drivers have crashed into homes as people slept inside.
Police are searching for the driver of a truck that slammed into an Irving apartment building early this morning and fled the scene. About 1:00 a.m. a truck crashed into an apartment complex on Pioneer Drive. Fortunately noone inside was injured.
And a car drove into a home in Hurst several days ago about 4:30 a.m. Again, it is lucky that the residents inside were not hurt. The 27-year old driver sustained minor injuries.
He was driving a 2002 Ford Taurus eastbound along Martin Drive and failed to stop at an intersection, crossed over three lanes, hit a median, “bounced” over three more lanes, hit a curb, and then broke through a brick privacy wall. The car then sped through the backyard and crashed into the kitchen of a house on Bent Ridge Drive.
It seems obvious that alcohol was involved in both cases. Police have not released their findings.
Sometimes alcohol combined with distracted driving are fatal. This was the case with a recent Dallas car accident that resulted in the driver’s death. The 24-year old driver was driving west on Arapaho Road at 1:30 am. and was arguing on the phone. Another man was in the passenger seat. They had just left a pool hall after getting into an argument. As the driver continued to scream, he hit a speed bump at high speed, clipped a road median, and caused his car to flip over. The man was killed.
Too many drivers fail to take the privilege of driving seriously. Texas has far too many injuries and fatalities due to drunk or distracted driving. While the governor has refused to sign the law approved by our state legislature which had banned DWD (texting while driving), those people injured by these DWD drivers can get their damages paid by making a claim or by filing a lawsuit against the driver responsible.
