Dallas Drunk Driver Driving Wrong Way on I-20 Kills His Passenger and Critically Injures Another Motorist

An intoxicated man who caused a horrible Dallas County automobile crash first thing this morning on Interstate 20 is facing charges for intoxicated manslaughter and intoxicated assault.

Juan Ramon Hernandez, 26, who lives in Irving, will be booked when he is released from Baylor University Medical Center, where he was taken in stable condition.

Hernandez was driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of the highway around 6:00 o’clock a.m. when he crashed his car into another car head-on.

A passenger riding with Hernandez was unfortunately killed in a crash and the driver of other vehicle was transported in critical condition to Baylor University Medical Center.

Sadly, these types of drunk driver wrong direction crashes are becoming far too common in North Texas. This is the second one in less than a week.

Although motor vehicle accidents happen ffor different reasons, it is obvious that drinking and driving greatly increases the chance of a collision. According to the Texas Department of Transportation, that there were 329 wrong way crashes last year, and alcohol was involved in 75% of those. 79 of those crashes happened here in the Metroplex, with my law office handling at four of those cases.

The police must do a better effort of patrolling our highways and bars and liquor stores must crack down on inebriated customers to stop all of these collisions caused by drunks, before they crash into you or me.
