Texting While Driving: Adults The Worst Offenders

Almost 50% of adults questioned in a recent survey admit that they text and drive, even though nearly all of them know the habit is dangerous. Only 43% of teens acknowledged doing this. The numbers were pretty close and there’s no way to know how honest the responses were, but the numbers are on the rise. Ever notice how many people around you are texting or dialing?

I was hired on another one of these cases yesterday to help a man who was rear ended by a teenager who admitted “I never even saw you.” The kid got out of his truck holding his cell phone. Think he was looking down and texting at the time? I’m going to subpoena his cell phone records and find out. Another new client is coming in later and told us the same thing on the phone.

This is a serious and potentially deadly practice because the risk of crashing increases by 23 times when reading/sending a text. It takes the driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds.

The federal government has begun collecting videos detailing the lives of people killed by distracted drivers. The videos can be viewed at http://www.distraction.gov/content/faces/
I’ve handled many of these cases over the past 33 years — and more all the time. If you have any questions about an auto or truck collision you have been injured in, please give me a call. I’ll fight to get you the money you deserve.
